We're Hooked On South Carolina Lowcountry — Here's Why

A Hilton Grand Vacations Member’s surprising timeshare discovery

With a passion for travel, we embrace any opportunity to explore a new adventure, but, frankly, we never considered timeshare — until we discovered South Carolina’s Lowcountry and Hilton Grand Vacations.

From Hilton Hotels To Hilton Grand Vacations

The term “timeshare” had always brought images of annual pilgrimages to the same roadside resort. We couldn’t imagine vacationing in the same place every year. Then, when reserving a hotel room with Hilton Hotels, we were presented with the opportunity to explore membership with an “exciting” vacation program. It All Started With Three Nights
The offer seemed too good to be true — three nights at our choice of locations for an extremely reasonable price. The only caveat was the requirement to learn about Hilton Grand Vacations during our stay. We were skeptical at first but ultimately decided we didn’t have anything to lose.

Our Expectations, Surprisingly Exceeded

For our first travel experience, we used our promotional getaway for a stay at the Anderson Ocean Club, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The oceanfront accommodations were spacious, clean and comfortable, with an expansive balcony and a gorgeous ocean view. It certainly exceeded all expectations. This is NOT what we equated with timeshare! The required presentation was informative and enticing. We learned about travel opportunities we had not considered.

We weren’t yet sold, so we took advantage of the VIP program. It allowed us to enjoy another vacation experience, again at a very attractive price.

South Carolina Redux: A Home Away From Home

Given constraints due to work and school schedules, we selected a location within a reasonable drive from home, and we used the VIP package to return to Anderson Ocean Club. Again, we stayed in spacious oceanfront accommodations. Everything about it was wonderful. It was truly a home away from home!

From HGV Membership To Lowcountry Aficionados

These two experiences convinced us to incorporate Hilton Grand Vacations into our vacation plans. We became Members. With our membership, we have traveled throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry, experiencing the rich history and beautiful natural landscapes.

Why You’ll Love South Carolina Too

While Myrtle Beach is not technically in the Lowcountry, it is on the northern border, and is a great place to start the adventure. Murrells Inlet, about 13 miles south of Myrtle Beach, is considered the seafood capital of South Carolina. You can enjoy the many eateries along Murrells Inlet MarshWalk while taking in the breathtaking Lowcountry scenery. A visit to Brookgreen Gardens and the Lowcountry Zoo completes a trip to Murrells Inlet.

How To Experience The Magic Of Charleston’s Charms

The journey through the Lowcountry continues about two hours south of Myrtle Beach to Charleston, home of the inviting Liberty Place Charleston, a Hilton Club. Liberty Place captures all the charm of the historic South while offering modern amenities. It’s located adjacent to the historic district and is within a leisurely 15-minute walk of many points of interest — including Liberty Square, the South Carolina Aquarium, King Street and The Battery. Liberty Place itself is a treat! The well-appointed accommodations provide a relaxing setting after a day of exploration.

This Single Hilton Head Moment Hooked Us On Timeshare

Hilton Head, at the south end of the Lowcountry, is about two hours from Charleston. It’s the home of Ocean Oak Resort, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club, one of our home resorts, and one of our favorites. In fact, Ocean Oak is the resort that truly hooked us into HGV. From the moment we walked into our Suite overlooking the beach and ocean, we knew this was a place we wanted to return to year after year. Ocean Oak totally changed our image of timeshare!

Beachfront Bliss Awaits At Ocean Oak Resort

The resort is relatively small — only about 126 units. All have the identical layout — two bedrooms and two baths, a spacious open layout sitting area, a large dining table, a fully stocked kitchen and in-unit laundry. So regardless of the room, Members will always feel at home during repeat visits.

Hilton Head Musts: Foodie Finds And Hidden Gems

Hilton Head boasts many successful eateries that will satisfy even the most discerning Lowcountry foodie. But more than the restaurants, what we enjoy most about Hilton Head is the laid-back atmosphere. It has neither the energy of Myrtle Beach nor the rich architectural history of Charleston. But it offers miles of serene Lowcountry beauty. We enjoy walks along the wide, hard-packed sandy beach that extends for miles. For avid cyclists, bike rentals are readily available for exploring the island, either on the miles of inland trails or on the beach. For relaxation with a good book, either of the two resort pools provides the perfect setting.
