When it comes to timeshare, Hilton Grand Vacations ensures you have all the information, resources and support you need to maximize your travels.
Unfortunately, some scammers scour the internet for data they can use to lure people into fraudulent timeshare offers, steal their personal information and trick them out of their time and money.
Arm yourself with the information you need and follow these five tips to avoid possible timeshare scams and protect your membership.
1. Know How Hilton Grand Vacations Does Business
The best way to identify a counterfeit is to know the real thing when you see it. At Hilton Grand Vacations, we stick to our brand standards. If something looks or sounds different than the communications you’re used to, it’s likely not from us.
Here’s how you can tell the difference between authentic Hilton Grand Vacations communications and a potential scammer:
- We do not share your information with any third party that would offer to sell or rent your timeshare membership or related benefits.
- We do not leave pre-recorded sales messages.
- We do not allow you to rent out your vacation exchange benefits.
- We do contact you if buyers are interested in purchasing your timeshare.
2. Be Wary Of Offers To Sell, Rent Or Advertise Your Timeshare
As stated above, Hilton Grand Vacations will never reach out and ask to rent your timeshare. And because Hilton Grand Vacations manages your membership directly, we’ll never ask a third party to contact you on our behalf, including partners like RCI.
Be cautious when receiving these offers, and always check by contacting your Club & Owner Services team directly. In addition, if you have questions about managing your membership, contact Hilton Grand Vacations directly.
3. Beware Of False Promises
Some scammers promise to sell your timeshare or eliminate maintenance or homeowners association fees. Maintenance fees are directly related to your vacation ownership interest and are managed directly by Hilton Grand Vacations. Avoid promises to handle fees or anything else related to your membership.
4. Don’t Pay Up-front Fees
Up-front fees are one way scammers can pilfer payments from you and even steal your credit card information.
Never pay an up-front fee to list your timeshare for sale or rent. Fees from a rental or resale transaction are usually paid by a buyer after the transaction closes.
5. When In Doubt, Don’t Engage
Working with a Hilton Grand Vacations sales Team Member is the only way to upgrade your membership securely. If you receive an offer from someone else that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you’re unsure, contact Hilton Grand Vacations directly with questions about your benefits or promotional offers.
Also, our communications are consistent and easy to identify. Don’t engage with a caller or respond to an email if the offer seems questionable or unexpected.
If you do speak with the caller, gather as many details as possible — such as the date and time of the call, the name of the company, the callback number and offer details — without sharing your personal information.
Whether you engage with the caller or not, or if you think you’ve been a victim of timeshare fraud, always report the incident:
