It’s time to celebrate a new year.

And there’s no better place to end 2022 than on the Las Vegas Strip, full of bright lights, excitement and energy.

Before catching a flight or road-tripping to Vegas’ over-the-top New Year celebrations, take a look at these frequently asked questions for some insider tips.

A group of people watch fireworks at night

Where’s the best spot to watch New Year’s Eve fireworks in Las Vegas?

Several Strip locations will launch fireworks from the rooftops, including the Aria, MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, the Venetian, the Stratosphere and Resorts World. With all of these displays, you have several options for where to catch a great view. Elara, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club, is situated between MGM Grand and Planet Hollywood on Las Vegas Boulevard, so you’ll have a spectacular view of these displays even if you stay close to your Suite.

Vegas may be in the desert, but evenings get cold in the winter. Plan to dress in warm layers as temperatures drop after the sun sets. Keep an eye on the weather before you head out, so you’ll know how to best prepare for the chilly air.

Fireworks displays begin at midnight on the dot. They’re eight minutes of spectacular photo-worthy shows from each of the eight display spots.

What time does Las Vegas Boulevard close on New Year’s Eve?

Traffic can be tricky on New Year’s Eve, especially if you’re traveling to the Strip from another area of Las Vegas. To make the most of your time, stay on the Strip all day on December 31 to avoid running into heavy traffic and road closures in the afternoon. Drop your luggage off at Flamingo, a Hilton Grand Vacation Club, and explore nearby attractions.

A few freeway lane closures will slow commutes from Downtown Las Vegas or the surrounding suburbs when traveling toward the Strip. Cross-traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard may be closed as early as 4:00 p.m., with final closure by 6:45 p.m. Keep in mind this may mean that parking garages will fill up quickly.

After that, Las Vegas Boulevard will only be open to pedestrian traffic, and you can make your way around on foot to find the perfect firework viewing spot. Be prepared to hang around after the show; you won’t be able to leave until well after midnight. Keep an eye on local news sites for a full list of road closures.

What is there to do in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve?

With food, parties, concerts and shows galore, there’s no reason to leave the Strip while you wait for the midnight fireworks displays if you stay at Paradise, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club.

Grab a meal at one of the hundreds of quick-service or fine-dining establishments across the Strip. To stay occupied, book tickets for concerts with Bruno Mars, Gwen Stefani, Adele and the Killers, who are both scheduled to perform on New Year’s Eve. There are also several Cirque Du Soleil shows to choose from.

When planning your day, leave enough time to find the perfect viewing spot to avoid competing with hundreds of thousands of people doing the same.

What items are not allowed during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Las Vegas?

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers will be stationed around the Strip to provide security so you can enjoy the night safely. This does also mean that there will be certain security measures. For example, items like glass bottles and drinking containers, large bags or backpacks, coolers and strollers are prohibited. For more on safety measures for this year’s event, check local news outlets.

How can you get around the Strip on New Year’s Eve?

Stay safe by using public transit and rideshare services to navigate to and from your Suite. The Las Vegas Monorail can help you get around, with seven stops between hotels on the Strip from the MGM Grand to the Sahara, close to the Boulevard, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club.

Wearing comfy shoes is a must when walking the 4.2-mile Strip in big crowds, so be sure to pack for the occasion.
